Lit Conference 2008

We are back! It has been quite a hiatus since the last writing but my thoughts, writing and life have been consumed with Lit Conference. Being our first conference, I was a bit over occupied with every minuscule detail. All that to say, Lit Conference was off the chain! I can tell you that the city of Jacksonville was touched in many ways and God used every worship tune, speaker and artist to speak to this generation to touch the world. Time will tell all God did throughout the two days. I know we are still receiving emails from attendees that were changed during the conference. As a team we are beginning to process everything that went down and hope to have some updates and news regarding all that transpired during the conference such as LCTLC commitment each student made.

As for some thanks I want to take some time and list a few people. So here is my own personal CD cover where I will give thanks.
My Wife Katie- The greatest event coordinator to ever live! I love you so much. Lit is Chaos without you.
Darrell and Donna Cheek- My in-laws (we actually get along, a little to well) Thanks for keeping Lit going.
Donors- You know who you are. Thanks for being sensitive to God. This first conference could have never happen without you.
Volunteers- All of you sacrificed money to join us and Katie and I are overwhelmed my your commitment and love for us.
Speakers and Artist- All of you nailed it. You are loved and I appreciate what all of you did to make it happen.
Pete and Hollie- Pete you are the greatest friend ever. Hollie thanks for the brother-in-laws mohawk.
Omni Staff- Thanks Brian and natalie you were way to kind to us.
Production - It looks good production
www.itlooksgood.com Scott you made my dream a reality.
Web Design- Will HIll you are amazing.
www.delcodsigns.com I can't thank you enough.

I will post more pics as they come in. I will also give you more news as we process it. In the meantime, thanks for everything all of you have done to make Lit happen. It is safe to say this is the start of something disturbing in the years to come.

Much Love
Cody

Radio Interview

So myself and Lit worship leader Jason Cox were passing through Jax and were able to make a quick stop at the local radio station 88.1 The Promise. Our DJ Roger gave us plenty of time to discuss Lit, answer some phone calls and hear Jason play a live tune.

Thank you 88.1 for your partnership with LIT Conference. It was a great interview.

Question

Again the two questions are...
1. If you live in JAx area, What do you see to be the greatest need in Jax?
2. If you do not live in Jax, give us your best ideas and stories of how you have touched your city or community with not just word but deed?
Email us office@litconference.com, Facebook us, Myspace us, or comment us! We need to hear from you. Our team is meeting soon to discuess the best way to touch the city while we are there.
It would be a tragedy to gather 1,000 followers of Jesus togehter and the world not be different because of it!

Steve Fee set for Lit Conference Session 3

We thought we would give you a sneak peak at some of the artist and speakers that will be with us at Lit 08. Scroll below and you will see Zach Hunter, another fellow Lit artist that we wrote about. I met Steve back in 2005 and let me say it was no ordinary meeting. If you have time I would like to share a quick story. My assumptions are if you are actually reading this you have plenty of time, so I will go forward with my Steve Fee story. It was September of 2005. I was in the hotel room getting ready to speak at what I knew was going to be a huge event. The coordinator had rented the 1,200-seat school auditorium and Steve Fee was on the line up and then I was set to speak. I was extremely nervous (as always) because of the 1,200 potential people and the fact I was on stage with the great Steve Fee. We made it to the event, met Steve and sat back stage with him as show time approached. To our surprise, show time rolled around and we both looked out of the curtain to see 5 students! Do you know how massive an auditorium of 1,200 looks when only 5 people show up? It was every event coordinators worst nightmare. It was a result of some unfortunate planning but there just happened to be a homecoming dance in the gym, which was right beside the auditorium. I joke about it, but in between Steve sets you could hear Sir Mix a Lot playing from the homecoming dance next door, while the 5 radical Christians remained faithful with us. (HA) Steve approached me with a question, “What do we do?” I pondered the question. Before I could get an answer he responded to his own question, “can we take them to the Waffle House?” Sounded like a brilliant idea to me, so we both approached the event coordinator but before we could get it out, He thought it was best to move on with the already scheduled event. So, with 5 people Steve got up and played as if there were 1,200 present. I wish I could tell you I had an epiphany. I would say with a preacher voice, “It’s because He was not playing for the 5 but for the 1.” (HA) I am good at that… Unfortunately, it was an awkward night for the both of us but I was greatly encouraged by the humanity of Steve and his passion to lead 5 students to worship, even if it was at the Waffle House. We never made it to the Waffle House but we did make it with the band to Cheddars. It didn’t take two minutes of conversation to realize this guy “gets it”. I am excited to have him be a part. Be sure to pick up his latest work, “Burn for you” which just so happens to fit the Lit theme really well. Love you Steve, and our team is praying for you as Lit Conference 08 approaches.

Zach Hunter set for Lit Conference Session 1

If you have been around this ministry or myself in the last two years you already know that we have raised a banner that reads, “God is Active”. It is more than a statement but reality all over the world. In fact, there is not a sweeter thought than this hour, this minute and even this second the activity of God is all around us. Knowing the Lit Conference was going to be centered on the activity of God, myself along with others from the team began to ask a question, what is God doing in this new movement? It didn’t take any theologians to figure out one of the dominant areas God is moving is within the marginalized, oppressed, and the outcast. This is nothing new, all throughout the scriptures you find God defending the voiceless, bringing justice to injustice, feeding the poor, and providing for the homeless. You can’t seem to read an entire chapter where it does not command us to go and serve the world around us. Whether the issue is poverty, orphans, malaria, aids, cancer, genocide, sex trade, or clean water God is burning within the hearts of this generation a discontent to leave the world this way. So we decided to bring in a 15-year-old student from my hometown of Atlanta, Zach Hunter. Zach is an abolitionist. He has given his life to end modern day slavery all over the world. As expected, when you chose to join the God of the oppressed, be prepared to be used by Him. So it is with Zach, God has seen fit to carry him all over the globe teaching our generation, writing books and starting a non-profit. From CNN to Good Morning America (above video) to festivals and conferences, God is using Zach to end slavery. If you are like me, living in Atlanta it is hard for me to know what is going on out side my own front door let alone the world. Our “Christian ghettos” as Campolo puts it, are blinding us with riches, safety and comfort. Did you know there are 27 million modern day slaves in the world today? Zach wrote a book on this called, “Be the change- your guide to freeing slaves and changing the world.’ I actually just put it down. Great short read, my kind of book! Zach’s passion is that our generation would be known as the justice generation. He started a non-profit called Loose change to Loosen Chains. The idea is that somewhere around 10.5 billion dollars in loose change is lying around U.S households. If we can get a hold of the change we could fund organizations like International Justice Mission and others that actually do the hands on work of freeing slaves. I can’t tell you how stoked I am Zach is going to be with us. You will want to be at session one as Zach kicks off Lit Conference 2008. In the meantime, pick up his book, get the change out of your couch, and support this cause to end slavery. Zach we love you bro! May God see it fit to rise up our generation to be the justice generation! -Cody
